Wine & Spirits Awards Business for Sale

This is a fascinating one in the “my business will do better if I win some awards” industry.

We see these in many industries (ex: web design, JD Power in automotive, etc) and geographies (states, countries and cities).

You pay to enter a competition and the businesses give out awards.

Perhaps my favorite is the angle from the local business journals and newspapers giving out all kinds of awards — and selling tables and sponsorships along the way.

This business targets a cool niche in this model: wine.

With the proliferation of wineries all trying to get some attention and thousands of them trying to stand out, this is a space “ripe” for someone to squeeze the juice out of it (see what I did there?).

It shows in the margins. This business profited ~$750k last year on $940k in revenue.

Pretty stupendous.

I’d want to dig into the sustainability of this business as well as the ethics to-date. Both would be things I’d want to know before pulling the trigger.
