Internet Business for Sale at 1.2x Profits

One reason I love looking at businesses for sale is the window they provide into people’s lives.

This deal got shared around my peer group last week.

It’s fascinating.

It’s a potpourri of money-making internet assets that a (now 50 year old) has been accumulating and operating since 1989.

According to the listing, it’s a combination of domain names, applications, software, and methodologies that s/he has been using to make >$2mm a year while only “working a few days a month.”

One curiosity about this listing: the cover photo is clearly not a stock photo. It would not surprise me if this is the actual desk where the solo owner is doing all of their work! There is also lots of code on the screen, a speakerphone, and several bottles of San Pelligrino. Old school!

My suspicion is that these are mostly content properties that s/he’s been leveraging for ad revenue during this time. But, only digging in will answer that question.

One last thing I like about the deal: the buyer is limiting his universe of bidders. They are requesting a person/couple who can afford this much invest *in cash* and want the buyer to also step in as operator. When buyers play games like this, it piques my interest as someone looking for a deal.

Anyway, this one isn’t a fit for me but is fascinating enough to send along. And given s/he is asking a little more than 1x EBITDA, might be a good one for the right buyer.
